Our study, which involved creating a hydraulic model using the HEC-RAS program, calculating the current flood capacity of the Tigris River, and determining the Manning's coefficient for the 150-kilometre section of the Tigris River, was conducted with meticulous attention to detail and thoroughness. This reach ends at the Alqurna River, which begins at the Amarah Barrage station. In April 2020, the Qal'at Saleh gauging station flow ranged between 88 and 115 m³/s, and this data set was used to calibrate the HEC-RAS model, Version 6.7. With a least-squares root difference of only 0.095 between the estimated and measured water levels, the values of Manning's n coefficient for the main channel and floodplain are equal to 0.03 and 0.035. According to the 2019 Iraqi Water Resources and Land Strategy, the extracted data show that the Tigris River may discharge up to 400 cubic meters per second in the region between the Al-Amarah Barrage and the Qurna River. The river can safely handle this flow without creating floods or adverse effects on its banks or adjacent areas, according to hydraulic models and scenarios studied for several specific cross-sections along this portion of the river.
